ASTON, Pa.– Eastern University Field Hockey scored a goal in each half and played solid defense to close on the way to a 2-0 non-league win at Neumann University. The Eagles (3-5) finished with a 16-6 edge in shots.

In the fifth minute, Abbey Hakes scored what would be the game-winner after a good move through the midfield by the entire squad. After carrying the ball from the left side, Kara Frantz found JoEl Groff in space on the on the right wing. Groff earned the endline and slid a ball in front of the cage for a one-time finish.

The Eagles had all seven first-half shots and a 4-0 edge in penalty corners.

Eastern had two great chances to score turned away by strong defensive plays early in the second half. Emerson Shauger jumped on a loose ball in the circle and converted in the 39th minute.

Down 2-0, the Knights pushed out of their end and applied pressure to the Eastern goal. Abby Agapito made a pair of stops late in the third quarter and Grace Wise came up with a huge defensive save midway through the fourth. Agapito finished with three saves to earn the shutout win. 

The Eagles are at Delaware Valley on Thursday night.
