LANGHORNE, Pa. – Eastern University Men's Soccer created two outstanding goals, but the Eagles never led in a 3-2 loss at Cairn University. The host Highlanders (2-1-1) scored the winning goal off a restart in the 58th minute.
After the Highlanders scored on a corner kick in the fifth minute, the Eagles found an equalizer in the 12th.
Evan Cope ran onto a brilliant through ball from
Zach Sievert in and buried his fourth goal of the year. The two teams went to intermission level at 1-1. Cairn had a 7-3 edge in first-half shots.
The Highlanders took the lead again in the 50th minute. This goal came off a pass from the middle to the right side. The first Highlander attacker to the ball let it slip through his legs and the second, Toby Smith took advantage of the space created by the fake to score his first of the year.
The Eagles again answered. The second goal was a thing of beauty. Sievert and Cope had the ball on the right wing near midfield and used
Stefan Williams and
Osmond Chan to help get off the sideline. With a little space Sievert bent a long ball out to the left flank. Manny Park curled an early serve behind the Highlander back line and Chan, who made a 50-yard driving run out of midfield, finished with his first touch.
Three minutes later, the Highlanders answered on a long serve and header.
The Eagles (2-2) created chances but could not score in the final half hour.
This Saturday, Eastern Men's Soccer will play Eagle Road rival Cabrini for the final time. The Cavaliers snapped an eight-game skid in the series with a 2-1 win last year. The final match will happen at Cabrini at 6:00 pm.
