ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Four different Eagles scored as Eastern University Women's Soccer (1-0) opened the season with a 4-2 home win over the Penn State Abington Lions (0-1).
Though the Eagles had most of the possession early, it took into the 14th minute before they found their first marker.
Ashlynn Keys earned some space on the right side and found
Leah Mowery on the back post. Mowery pushed the ball inside the left upright for her third career tally.
Less than eight minutes later, Keys again created an opportunity with a pass from the right.
Madelyn Mullen received the ball in a central position and bumped it to an open space on the left side.
Sydney Koncsol finished it with authority.
Seana Rodgers scored in the 38th minute for a 3-0 lead. The first year midfielder converted a pass from fellow rookie
Morgan Crake.
The Eagles held an 18-2 edge in first-half shots and had six corner kicks.
With the big halftime lead, the Eagles created numerous chances but lacked precision in the box and left a window open for the Lions to crawl back into the league. Abington's Nayesko Ravelo scored twice on the counter to close the Eastern lead to a single goal with 15 minutes remaining.
Fifty-nine seconds after the second Lion goal,
Gina Facciolo delivered an answer to secure the win. She converted a left-footed volley of an
Emma Bennett cross for her first career goal.
Brooke Moskey played the first half in goal to secure the win.
