ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– On one of the first really warm days of the spring, the shorthanded Eastern University women's lacrosse team battled throughout before dropping a 20-7 decision to the visitng Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen.
Emerson Shauger scored three times and added a pair of assists in the loss.
Shauger tied the game at 2-2 midway through the first quarter on a pass from
Ellie Pruitt, but the visitors scored five-straight to stretch their lead to 7-2. Shauger scored the final goal of the first quarter on a free position attempt. Shauger recorded an assist on the first goal and had three of her team-high five draw controls in the opening period. The Eagles won 5-of-11 first quarter draws, but the Dutchmen were efficient on offense and converted their chances.
The Eastern defense continued to work and apply pressure in the second quarter, but LVC scored the first five goals of the period before
Gracie Horton bounced home a free position shot late.
The twelve Eastern players all went the distance in the second half. Shauger scored in the third quarter on an assist from
Teresa Gailey and Pruitt and Horton added goals in the fourth.
Alyse Hand had three caused turnovers and two draw controls and
Sara Haas had a pair of caused turnovers and and four ground balls.
Sydney Zimmerman led a balanced LVC attack with three goals and seven assists. Veronica Venezia had three goals, five assists and eight draw controls.
The Eagles will travel to MAC Commonwealth leading York on Saturday.
