Baseball Falls at Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. - A close contest early got away from Eastern Baseball late on Wednesday evening as Eastern fell to Eagle Road rival Cabrini 17-4 at Cabrini Carroll Field. Eastern trailed just 4-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth frame, but the Cavaliers (8-4) scored 13 unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game out of reach.

The Eagles (1-8) had their chances to strike early, but left the bases loaded in the first and second innings without scoring a run. In the first inning, Matt McHale hit a two-out single to left field, before David Hunsberger reached on a hit by pitch and Camden Angell walked. However, the Eagles could not capitalize. In the second, straight walks to Griffin Falco, Justin DiCesare, and Ben Chiara loaded the bases with nobody out, but Cabrini pitcher Blake Weinstein was able to escape the jam and keep the contest scoreless.

The Cavaliers were able to break the scoreless tie in their half of the second with three runs, but Eastern answered back with two runs its own to cut the deficit to one run. Hunsberger, after being hit by a pitch for the second straight at-bat, stole both second and third, and Mark Cruser drove him home with a sacrifice fly to right field. Falco followed with a solo shot to left field, making it a 3-2 Cabrini lead. It is the second straight season that Falco has homered at Cabrini-Carroll Field.

Cabrini regained a two-run advantage in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Jake Eagle. Cruser answered with his second RBI of the day, a single to left field, to score Angell and trim the Cavaliers' lead to 4-3.

The Eagles would not get any closer. Cabrini pulled away in the final three innings, scoring seven runs in the fifth and six runs in the sixth. Joe Paradise notched his first RBI of the season with a single to right field for Eastern's final run in the top of the seventh.

Cruser finished the afternoon with two RBIs, while Angell scored a pair of runs. Angell, Cruser, Falco, McHale, Paradise, and Connor Schilling each finished with a hit for Eastern.

The Eagles are back on the road tomorrow for a single contest against Muhlenberg College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
