FREDERICK, Md. - On Saturday, Eastern Men's Volleyball traveled to Hood for its first road tri-match of the season. The Eagles picked up its first conference win in match one, bouncing back from a one-set deficit to defeat Hood in four sets (22-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-16), before falling to Misericordia in straight sets in match two
Eastern put forth a strong showing against the Blazers, hitting a remarkable .356 as a team with 48 kills and just 12 errors in 101 swings.
Max Bagileo led the Eagles with 11 kills, while
Lucas Adam recorded 10 and
Jeremiah Pha finished with eight.
Chris Miller orchestrated the offense with 32 assists, while Pha and Andrew Suarez Batista led the defensive effort with 12 and 11 digs, respectively.
After the Eagles built a 5-2 in the opening set, Hood used a 9-1 run to turn its three-point deficit into a five-point lead. Eastern battled back, eventually tying the match at 19-19, but the Blazers scored six of the final nine points to take an early one set advantage.
Eastern took control in the final three sets, now allowing the Blazers to score more than 18 points. The Eagles used an early four-point, with kills from Pha and Suarez-Batista, to go up 5-2, and later used a 8-2 surge to pull ahead 16-9. Adam had two kills and a service ace during the run. Hood never got closer than six as the Eagles in 25-16.
Trailing 11-10 in set three, the Eagles rattled off eight straight points to take an 18-11 lead. Adam finished with a pair of service aces, while Bagileo recorded a pair of kills. Eastern used that momentum to win the third set 25-18 and take a two sets to one lead.
The Eagles put the match away in the fourth set, using an early 13-5 to take a lead they would not relinquish.
Eastern fell in its second match of the day to a solid Misericordia squad in three sets. The Eagles hit just .124 as a team, which included a .085 hitting percentage in the first set and only eight kills in the second. Furthermore, the Eagles committed 18 errors in 105 total swings.
Adam led the Eagles with eight kills, while Pha, Bagileo, and
Josiah Cash each finished with six. Cash played well against the Cougars, recording a .313 hitting percentage with six terminations and only one error from the middle blocker spot.
Eastern will be back in action on the road this coming Thursday against Cairn. Opening serve is set for 7:00 pm.
