Men's Lacrosse Tops Calvin

GEORGETOWN, Texas– Thirteen different players scored as Eastern University Men's Lacrosse earned a 20-8 win over Calvin University at Southwestern University in Texas. Nicholas Fanelli had three goals and three assists and Christopher Fanelli had three goals and an assist. The Eagles will play against Southwestern on Saturday.

Dan Divita opened the scoring on a transition goal from Nicholas Fanelli, but the Knights (2-3) found an equalizer on a man-up chance with ten minutes left in the first quarter. Five of Calvin's eight goals came on extra-man opportunities. 

The next 20 minutes belonged to the Eagles. Gavin Stark scored with 8:22 left in the first to start a 10-to-0 run. All ten Eastern goals came at even strength. Nick Litzenberger and Chrostopher Fanelli each had two goals and an assist in the burst, Avery Porter scored twice, and Nicholas Fanelli, Jake Gottschalk, and Ryan Poole each scored single goals. Poole's goal came in transition off an assist from his younger brother Jason Poole. The Knights scored a man-up goal with three minutes left to close the gap to 11-2 at halftime. 

Eastern won 9-of-15 first-half faceoffs and went 19-for-32 in the game. Patrick McClain won 12-of-19 and Anthony Firmani won 5-of-9. Charlie Harrison won a pair of draws. 

Connor Bachman scored the first goal of the second half before Nicholas set up Christopher with a more traditional brother-act goal. Nicholas scored from Stark with seven minutes left and had another at the end of the third for a 15-4 lead. The Knights scored twice in the third quarter and added an even-strength goal to stat the fourth before Ethan Myers gave way to Connor Evans. Myers finished with nine saves in 48 minutes. Evans finished with three saves in nine minutes and Ben Connolly came on for the final two minutes. 

Ryan Drobnick, Min Lee, and Zach Washco each scored single goals in the fourth and Ryan Williamson, a Texas native, scored twice. 

The Eagles return to play against the host Pirates at noon central time.
