Softball Drops Pair at Haverford


HAVERFORD, Pa. - While on the road, Eastern Softball dropped a pair of tough games against a quality opponent in Haverford. The Eagles fell 4-5 in game one and 5-13 in the second game to the Fords.

In game one, both teams offenses came out of the gates hot. The Eagles (8-5) opened the game with a Jania Long RBI single in to left field, scoring Tori Hook in the top of the first. The Fords (12-2) answered back with a Mia Kessinger sacrifice fly and a two-run homerun from catcher Abby Marquis. 

Eastern followed with a Sophie Rollins a groundout RBI and a two-run homerun from Alyssa Binczak to take back the lead 4-3. Haverford then answered with an RBI single to left field from Kaila Uyeda to tie the game. 

Long was sent in to pitch in the third inning for Bryn Clifford. Long took care of the first three hitters she faced. In the bottom of the fourth, the Fords started the inning with a single from Molly Kaufman. Long struck out the next batter and caused the next to ground out. It took a Carley Parsons single to left field to score Kaufman to give Haverford the back the lead 4-5. Eastern couldn't take back the lead in the remaining innings.

Long finished with four innings pitched, allowing three hits, giving up one earned run and one strikeout. Binczak had two hits on three at bats, with two RBIs, one run, and one walk in game one.

In game two, started with a Long two-run homerun before Haverford scored the six in both the bottom of the first and second innings. Eastern managed to claw their way back in the game off a wild pitch that scored Kacie Noonan and a Susana Perez groundout RBI in the fourth, shortening the deficit to 4-6. The Fords answered back with two scores off a wild pitch and a Marquis RBI double in the bottom of fourth. The Eagles followed the next inning with a RBI single to center field from Long to limit the gap 5-8 before Haverford ended the game on a five run fifth inning.

In the second game Long ended with two hits, three RBIs as Perez finished with one hit, one RBI in three at bats.

Eastern returns to action with their home opener Wednesday against Ceder Crest College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
