ANNVILLE, Pa. - Eastern Baseball wrapped up its three-game series against LVC with two more contests at McGill Field on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles (2-14) fell in game one, 13-6, before a late rally fell short in an 8-5 defeat in game two.
LVC (7-8-1) grabbed the early advantage in game one, scoring five runs in the first three innings before adding six more insurance runs in the fourth. The Eagles scored single runs in the third on a
Mark Cruser sacrifice fly and an RBI single from
Evan Barks.
Eastern's best inning in game one came in the fifth frame.
Brian Lang scored Cruser on a sacrifice fly, before Barks added two more runs on an RBI triple, the first of his collegiate career.
Sean Cottrell plated the Eagles' sixth run in the sixth inning on an RBI single, scoring
Matt McHale. Cottrell and Barks combined to go 4-for-7 with two runs scored and four RBI in the doubleheader opener.
LVC struck first again in game two, plating a pair of runs on a Conor Smith single in the first inning. After a scoreless second and third frame, however, Eastern was able to tie the contest in the fourth.
Austin Utterbaugh begin the rally with a double to right field. Lang drove him home with a double to left center, and later scored on a LVC throwing error to make it 2-2.
The Dutchmen, however, answered with a six-run fifth inning to take a lead they would not relinquish. Eastern scored three runs in the seventh on a Utterbaugh RBI single, a bases loaded walk to
Griffin Falco, and a
Leyton Bamesberger groundout, but would not get any closer.
Barks put together another strong performance in game two with two hits in four at-bats, while Utterbaugh went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI.
Eastern returns home to The Yard on Wednesday afternoon to take on Swarthmore in a single, nine-inning contest. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
