Baseball Falls to LVC

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - In its second home game in as many days, Eastern Baseball dropped a 17-5 decision to the defending MAC Commonwealth Champion Lebanon Valley Dutchmen on Friday night at The Yard. LVC (5-8-1) scored three runs in the second inning and added on in the fourth, fifth, and sixth frames to take a lead it would not relinquish.

Zackary Bollinger started the game, collecting a pair of strikeouts in the first inning. However, on the second pitch he saw in the second inning, LVC designated hitter Shane Stossel scorched a solo shot to left field to put the Dutchmen ahead 1-0. Later in the inning, third basemen Justin Ranker hit a two-run home run to left center to put to increase the Dutchmen advantage to 3-0. LVC continued to hit the ball well throughout the contest, scoring six runs in the fourth, three in the fifth, and four in the sixth. For the game, the Dutchmen finished with 17 hits.

Eastern scored all five of their runs in the final three innings. In the sixth, sophomore Austin Utterbaugh delivered his fifth career RBI on a single to center field. In the seventh, first-year outfielder Thomas Kozlusky made the most of his first collegiate appearance. After Brock Langlotz led off the inning with a double to right field, the Quakertown, Pa. native followed with a double of his own to left field to give the Eagles their second run. Later in the inning, Kozlusky stole home for Eastern's third tally.

In the eighth inning, Evan Barks recorded his first double and RBI of the season, scoring Evan Amey, and Kozlusky collected his second RBI on a sacrifice fly to center field to cap off a strong debut.

Eastern (2-12) will be back in action against the Dutchmen for two more games tomorrow in Annville. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 12:00 noon.
