GLENSIDE, Pa. - Eastern Men's Volleyball traveled to Arcadia on Saturday for a pair of matches against MAC opponents. The Eagles dropped a three-set match to a solid Stevenson squad (20-25, 15-25, 16-25) before falling to host Arcadia in straight sets in the twi-match finale (15-25, 20-25. 19-25).
Eastern's offense struggled against the Mustangs in its first contest, hitting just .072 for the match. After 11 kills in the first set, the Eagles recorded just 15 in the final two. The first set was close throughout, with neither team leading by more than two points en route to a 19-19 tie. The Mustangs, however, used a 5-1 run to end the set and take control of the contest. In set two, the Eagles trailed just 12-10 midway through, but an eight-point surge by Stevenson allowed the Mustangs to claim a 25-16 win. In set three, the Mustangs ended the match on a 6-1 run to secure the sweep.
Lucas Adam and
Andres Suarez Batista led the Eastern offense with seven kills apiece, while
Max Bagileo finished with six and
Josiah Cash added five.
Chris Miller orchestrated the offense with 22 assists, while
Jeremiah Pha led the defensive effort with 10 digs.
While a little more improved against Arcadia, the Eastern offense recorded just 25 kills in 76 total attacks (.105). Bagileo led the way with eight terminations, while Suarez Batista and Cash added six and five, respectively. Miller dished out 20 assists, while
Max Bushong led the defensive effort with six digs.
The Eagles got off to a strong start in set one, scoring the first five points. However, the Knights scored the next three points and went on to outscore Eastern 25-10 to take set one 25-15. The second set was close, with neither team leading by more than three points in its latter stages, but the Knights ended the set on a 6-4 run to win 25-20.Â
Eastern got off to another strong start in set three. After playing to a 12-12 tie, the Eagles rattled off five straight points to go up 17-12. However, the Knights completed a furious comeback, outscoring Eastern 13-3 to secure the three-set sweep.
The Eagles will be back in action in two weeks time in New York City. Eastern will face Drew and Lehman beginning at 12 noon.
