Late rally Not Enough for Women's Basketball at Widener

CHESTER, Pa.– Eastern University women's Basketball outscored the host Widener University 16-to-9 in the fourth quarter, but the late rally was not enough and the Eagles fell, 56-50. Jeriyah Johnson scored 20 points and Taryn Woodson finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Johnson's floater as time expired in the third quarter pulled the Eagles to within 13 with ten minutes to play. Woodson scored the first five points of the fourth and Johnson answered a pair of two-point baskets by Jordan D'Ambrosio with made 3-pointers to pull the Eagles to within six points at 51-45. Eastern shot 5-for-10 with just two turnovers in the seven minute stretch. Trinity Upton and Wynter Bess made shots down the stretch, but the Eagles were never able to get closer than six.

The Eagles (4-16, 2-10) led 12-7 with two and a half minutes left in the first quarter, before Widener closed out the opening quarter on a 7-to-0 run. Eastern only trailed 14-12 at the quarter break despite shooting only 3-of-11 from the floor and committing eight turnovers.

After Widener (8-13, 5-7)  scored the opening basket of the second, the Eagles scored the next six points and took an 18-16 led on a foul-line jumper from Tyerra Jarvis with 7:45 remaining in the half. The Pride scored the next seven points and ended the half on a 12-to-3 run. The Eastern defense held its own, but seven turnovers and 1-for-9 shooting in the nearly eight minute stretch put the Eagles behind for good.
