Baseball Drops Two on Second Day at Ripken

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Eastern Baseball continued its Spring Break Trip on Tuesday with a pair of contests against local foes Neumann and Cabrini. In the morning, despite 10 hits, the Eagles could only muster one run in a 10-1 loss the Knights. Later in the afternoon, Eastern fell behind early and never recovered in a 11-1 defeat to Eagle Road rival Cabrini.

Eastern (0-5) struck first against the Knights in the opening frame. After a single and stolen base from Connor Schilling, David Hunsberger recorded his first RBI of the season with a base hit up the middle of the diamond, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

The Knights (1-3) took control from there, scoring two runs in each the third, fourth, and fifth frames to take a lead they would not relinquish. The Eagles had runners in scoring position in the second, fourth, sixth, and seventh frames, but were unable to capitalize. The Knights added one run in the eighth and three more in the ninth to secure the victory.

Schilling continued his strong start to the season for the Eagles, collecting two hits in four at-bats along with Eastern's lone run. After five games, Schilling leads the Eagles in batting average (.467) and hits (seven). Justin DiCesare collected his first career hit, a double, while Ryan Turzani also finished with an extra-base knock.

The Cavaliers (3-3) struck first in the second contest, scoring a pair of runs on an Eastern fielding error. Three innings later, the Cabrini offense exploded for six runs, which included a pair of two-run blasts, to put the contest out of reach.

First-year second baseman Ben Chiara recorded his first collegiate hit against the Cavaliers, while Schilling, Camden Angell, and Joe Paradise also finished with hits in the contest. In his first collegiate appearance on the bump, Connor Viola recorded three strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Fellow first-year pitcher Adam Venezia was effective in his first relief appearance, giving up just one hit and no runs in 2.1 frames of work.

The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow for a single contest against Methodist University. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
