Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Rolls to Senior Day Win

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– To celebrate senior day, Eastern University Men's Basketball cruised to a 75-60 senior day-win over the visiting Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen. The Eagles (16-8, 9-6) led by as many as 25 points in the second half. Before the game, the program honored seniors William Leach, Olutobi Akinbayo, Jairus Carroll, Sam Gallardo, and Jaron Fairweather in a pregame ceremony, and the five seniors started together for the first time.

The Dutchmen (6-18, 4-11) led 10-8 after the first seven and a half minutes, but the Eagles brought in fresh legs and pounded out a 25-to-4 run to grab control of the game. In the run, Zubair Lee had eight points and Kaeshawn Ward scored seven. The Eagles went 10-of-14 from the floor with four 3-pointers while allowing just a single Lebanon Valley basket.

The Eastern lead grew to 20 with two minutes left in the half on a pair of Kevin Reeves free throws before the Dutchmen hit the final basket to close the gap. The Eagles shot 15-of-30 from the floor in the half and had a 26-16 edge on the glass. Lee and Fairweather both had eight points at the half.

Led  by a pair of baskets from two-time All-MAC Commonwealth forward Collin Jones, the Dutchmen opened the second half on an 8-to-2 run before the Eagles put together a 28-15 burst for a 70-45 lead with six minutes left. The Eagles went 10-of-16 from the floor and made 6-of-7 free throws Lee and Reeves each had six points and eight total Eagles scored in the run. The Dutchmen scored 15 of the final 20 points of the game.

Fairweather had 12 points and nine rebounds. Lee finished with 14 points on 7-of-7 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. Draig Cooley finished with a game-high nine rebounds and six assists. Reeves went 3-for-3 from the field to finish with 11 points.

"The guys pitched the idea of starting all five seniors and were really excited about it," Head Coach Dan Pruessner said after the game. "I was glad we were able to do this and publicly recognize that a lot of what makes a program successful happens when there are not fans in the stands. We were able to execute at both ends of the floor to get a result. We need to carry that forward to Saturday."

The Eagles travel to Stevenson on Saturday for a game with significance for both teams. Stevenson can make the MAC Commonwealth Tournament with a win and a York loss at Widener.

Widener can secure the top seed in the tournament with a win over York and Hood win over Alvernia in Frederick.

If Alvernia beats Hood, Eastern will lock into the third seed regardless of their result on Saturday by virtue of either a better record than Hood with a win or a tiebreaker win over Widener in the event of a loss. If Hood beats Alvernia, the Eagles would need a win at Stevenson and a Widener win over York to stay in the third spot.

If Hood beats Alvernia and Widener loses to York, the Eagles would be the fourth seed regardless of their result against Stevenson. If the Eagles were to lose in that scenario, they would host Stevenson. If the Eagles win at Stevenson, they would see York in Monday's game. All three games are slated to start at 3 pm.

Post-season match-ups and times will be released here as soon as those games go final.
