Volleyball Stretches Streak to Ten with Win at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Volleyball claimed an efficient three-set win over the Elizabethtown College Blue Jays to push their winning streak to ten matches. Hannah Pringle finished with a match-high 14 kills, and Logan Martin had ten kills and a sparkling .714 hitting percentage.

The Eagles (23-3) found a good rotation early with Grace Casagrande at the service line and jumped to a 7-1 lead. Pringle had three kills in the first seven points, and Bridgette Kelly had a kill and two blocks. The host Blue Jays, who came in riding a six-game winning streak, closed the gap to 10-7, but Kelly and grace Cooper served for points and the Eagles found rhythm in the sideout game to stretch their lead back to five points before Cooper served for three more and Viviana Fragoso served out the set with a. 25-16 win.

In controlling the first set, Pringle had six kills and Martin four. As important, the Eastern defense did work behind the block. Casagrande had 12 of her 23 digs in the first set.

In the second set, the Eagles had more big service runs, but the Blue Jays also put together runs of points. With eight hitting errors, Eastern hit just .158 in the second set, but the Eagles found big points when they needed them and earned a 25-23 win. Martin recorded the final kill of the set.

Service runs from Fragoso and Casagrande put the Eagles up early. The Eagles stretched their edge to 22-11 and found the sideouts they needed late to win 25-18.

Jiron Bujanda finished with 38 assists and 12 digs. Copper joined her and Casagrande in double-figure digs with 10. With her final dig of the night, Casagrande reached 500 kills in a season for the second time in her career. She joins Kelly Groff and current Assistant Coach Rylie Haas Norris as the only players to reach that plateau in multiple seasons.

Over the ten-match streak, Martin and Pringle have each hit big numbers. Over that stretch, Martin is hitting .360 with 2.83 kills per set and Pringle is at .275 with just under four kills per set. Kelly is hitting .379 and is just under a block per set. The Eagles have hit .247 as a team.

"Logan, Bridgette and Hannah were all very effective tonight," Head Coach Mark Birtwistle said after the match. "Elle did a nice job of moving the ball and finding the mismatches. Our serving was also a positive tonight."

Eastern's tenth-straight win also stretched their streak to ten over the Blue Jays. The Eagles last lost to Elizabethtown in 2006.

Eastern will play a pair of matches at Stockton University on Saturday. They will play Neumann at noon and the host Ospreys after that.
