ST. DAVIDS, Pa– Eastern University Women's Volleyball earned a four-set MAC Commonwealth win over the visiting Albright College Lions (13-4, 0-3).
Hannah Pringle led the Eastern attack with 15 kills.
The Eagles dominated the sets they won, but a the scrappy visitors rallied late in the third set to earn a 28-26 win and force a fourth set. The Eagles had match point at 24-22, but the Lions scored three straight to put the Eagles behind 25-24. The Eagles fought off a set point on a kill from
Logan Martin, but the length of the set had the Eagles out of substitutions and the Lions were able to sideout twice and win the set on an ace. The Eagles, who had hit .295 in the first two sets, hit only .077 with ten hitting errors in the third.
In the fourth set, Eagles (15-3, 3-0) were successful on 8-of-10 sideout chances and and hit .382 to earn a 25-10 win. With the Eastern passing and defense back in order, Martin had seven kills on ten swings and a solo block in the fourth set.
Emma Flores had four kills, and
Grace Casagrande led the Eastern defense with seven digs. Each of Eastern's first seven servers scored at least one point.
Grace Cooper served eight straight to push the Eastern lead to 20-6.
Eastern hit .333 in the first set and won 25-10.
Elle Jiron-Bujanda had 11 of her 32 assists in the first set. led by
Viviana Fragoso with three, the Eagles opened the match with six service aces. Even when the Lions handled serves, they were pushed out of systema nd the eagles attacked in transition.
The Eagles continued to serve aggressively and sideout consistently as they built a 20-9 lead in the second. Eastern hit .265 in the second set and won 25-13.
"They made plays," Head Coach
Mark Birtwistle said of the third set. "In the other three sets, we hit over .320 [.326] and served well. "
Martin hit .444 with 13 kills and Casagrande had a match-high 24 digs.
The Eagles will be at Messiah University for another MAC Commonwealth match next Wednesday.
