LANCASTER, Pa.– Eastern University Field Hockey scored twice in each half and recorded a third-consecutive shutout to end the non-league portion of the 2023 schedule with a 4-0 win at Lancaster Bible College. The Eagles (5-5) finished the match with a 26-1 edge in shots.
Sydney Davis scored both first-half goals and added a helper in the second.
Davis entered the match in the 11th minute and made an instant impact. On her first touch of the match, the senior forward had a shot saved off the line. One minute later, she was in the right spot to push home her first goal of the year.
Rebecca Webb found space on the right side and weaved into the circle through a group of LBC defenders. Davis waited patiently at the back post and slapped home the crossing pass from Webb.
Davis scored her second goal in the waning seconds of the first quarter. After inserting the penalty corner, Davis moved to the middle of the circle.
Kara Frantz drove a shot toward goal and Davis knocked in the rebound.
Eastern held a 9-0 edge in first-quarter shots. Late in the second quarter, it looked like the Eagles converted another penalty corner chance, but that goal was disallowed.
The Eagles pushed in two more goals early in the third quarter.
Morgan Unruh scored from the top of the circle 93 seconds into the period. Six minutes later,
Kara Frantz redirected a Davis shot to put the Eagles up 4-0.
The Eagles head into MAC Commonwealth play with a three-match winning streak and a 5-5 mark. They will start the league season with a tough road test against the #4 ranked Messiah University Falcons.
