WILKES-BARRE, Pa.– A late rally fell short as Eastern University Football dropped a 28-18 decision at King's College.
Brett Nabb threw for 238 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the loss.
After playing almost exclusively in the rain over the last month, the Eagles got a sunny day to compete.
The Eagles put together nearly 300 yards of total offense and scored twice in the fourth quarter. Nabb was 22-for-35 with completions to seven different receivers.
Nassik Smith caught six balls for 89 yards and a touchdown.
Eddie Swinton caught seven passes for 74 yards.
The Eagles got the ball for their first touchdown on a forced fumble by
Jason Bateman.
Gashawn Moody, who again led the eagles with 12 tackles, had the recovery.
Nabb led the Eagles on a 33-yard drive. He found
Izayah Guy-Bruton for a 20-yard touchdown. Nabb rushed for the two-point conversion.
On the next play, Seem Skinner picked off a deflected pass to give the Eastern offense another short field. Nabb found Smith for a 14-yard touchdown and Nolek converted the kick.
The Monarchs (6-1, 5-1) are in the midst of one of their best seasons in recent years and are competing for a top spot in the MAC. The veteran hosts executed on their first drive and punched in a quarterback sneak to cap a five-play, 67-yard drive.
The Eagles put together a 51-yard drive that did not originally pay dividends.
Sabor Stevens punted to put the Monarchs in a hole at their 10-yard line, and
Logan McGowan ripped a ball out on the next play from scrimmage.
Vaughn Highland recovered the fumble and the Eastern offense had a short field. The Monarch defense held and the Eagles settled for a
John Nolek field goal.
The Monarchs built a second long drive for a 14-3 lead. Over the next eight minutes, the Eastern offense marched 64 yards in 13 plays, but that drive ended with an interception at the two yard line. After a modest drive, a booming 73-yard punt flipped at the field and the Monarchs got a stop and a quick score to lead 21-3 at the half.
King's scored the only touchdown of third quarter. The Monarchs took advantage of another short field for a three-play drive.
Jeremiah Avriien led the Eastern rushers with 23 total yards. Monarch quarterback Russell Minor-Shaw rushed for 101 yards and threw for 175.
