With the University's first ever homecoming football game slated for Saturday night, Eastern University Athletics is gearing up for a new era of Homecoming Celebrations.Â
The 7:00 pm football game at Franklin Field against Albright is the last of four home athletic contests on the weekend. Eastern Men's Soccer will host top-ranked Messiah University in a MAC Commonwealth contest at 3 pm on Friday. Eastern Field Hockey and Eastern Women's Soccer will both play at noon on Saturday.
Field Hockey will host Hood College and Women's Soccer will play Messiah. All four games will be streamed on MACtv.
Homecoming at Eastern is an important time for current teams to connect with Alumni and for the University to celebrate alums.
On Friday night, Eastern Athletics will induct three individuals into the Hall of Honor. In a 6 pm ceremony at St. Davids Golf Club, Grant Ferguson, Jillian DiRenzo Pritchett, and Dan Auguste will be the 15th class to join the Hall of Honor.
Ferguson '15 was a standout Men's Lacrosse player who still holds both the single season (62) and career goals (188) marks for EUMLAX. He played on four Conference Championship teams and twice earned USILA All-America Honors. He was the 2014 MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Year.
DiRenzo played for Eastern Women's Soccer and graduated in 2010. She won three Conference Championships and played in eight NCAA Tournament contests. She holds the program record for goals in a single season (25) and in a career (58). Eighteen of her goals stood as game-winners. She earned NSCAA All-America Honors in 2009 and was an All-Mid Atlantic Region selection in both 2007 and 2009.
Auguste, a men's soccer athlete who played from 1997-2000, is one of the four Eastern players in the NCAA era to reach 100 career points. He finished his time with 40 goals and 30 assists and was on the first Eastern men's team in any sport to compete in an NCAA Tournament game. He was a three-time All-Pennsylvania Athletic Conference performer.
The 2023 Hall of Honor Class will also receive recognition at halftime of the football game.
With construction still in progress on the facility at Valley Forge, Eastern Football is playing its home contests at Franklin Field. The historic venue is a great place to watch a game and offers covered seating in the event of rain. Alumni and fans looking to come to the game should check the schedule page or tabs on the football page for information about parking and tickets.
Several teams have alumni games scheduled on Saturday and Various alumni groups have receptions scheduled around the football game. The
1987-88 Men's Basketball Team will meet for a 35th reunion and will be recognized at the Football game. That team was inducted into the Hall of Honor in 2014.
While not technically part of Homecoming Weekend, the
2023 Eagle Classic will be at Waynesborough Country Club on Tuesday the 17th. That event is the Athletic Department's Annual fundraiser to support the growth in Athletics.
