ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - In another well played soccer match on Tuesday evening at Olson Field, Eastern Women's Soccer battled Lancaster Bible to a 1-1 draw in its final non-conference tilt of the season. With the tie, the Eagles remained undefeated on their home pitch.
Seana Rodgers scored her second collegiate goal in the second half, and
Faith Leake recorded another strong start in between the pipes.
The Chargers (9-3-1) opened the scoring in the eighth minute to grab an early 1-0 advantage. An excellent pass by Leah Perreault over the top of the Eastern defense found forward Kendal Ream, and the senior raced the length of the field and punched one past Leake to put the Chargers ahead.
For Ream, it was her 17th goal of the season, and while she did record six more shots, first-year defender
Ella Sedor played right with her the rest of the way. The Bloomsburg, Pa. native played all 90 minutes and consistently provided stout defensive pressure on LBC's talented striker as the match progressed.
Trailing 1-0 after halftime, the Eagles began to push the pace, and it led to the equalizer. Off a free kick,
Leah Mowery's pass deflected off of
Kayla Bardonner and then off Rodgers into the back of the net to knot the contest at 1-1.
For Rodgers, it was her second goal of the season and her first since Eastern's 4-2 win over PSU Abington back on Sept. 1st. Bardonner notched her first career helper, while Mowery recorded her third. Both teams had excellent scoring chances later in the second half, but neither was able to break the 1-1 tie.
LBC narrowly led the Eagles in shots, 14-12, and both teams finished with seven shots on target. Leake put together another excellent performance in her fourth start of the season, making six saves in the draw. For the season, Leake has made 28 saves while allowing only seven goals.
The Eagles (2-4-5, 1-0-1) return to conference action on Saturday with an afternoon matinee against Messiah to kick off Homecoming weekend. The contest is set to begin at 12:00 noon.
