ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Field Hockey executed on a pair of perfect penalty corner goals to grab an early lead, bur the visiting Muhlenberg College Mules (1-2) score the final four goals of the game to win 5-2.
Kara Frantz and
Ellie Pruitt scored for the Eagles in the loss.
Though the Eagles had the advantage in field position and possession early, the Mules found the goal first with a tap in at the back post in the 13th minute.
The Eagles answered in less than two minutes on the second of two penalty corners.
Morgan Unruh slipped a perfect insert to
Emerson Shauger at the top of the circle. Shauger drew the attention of the flyer and rolled a pass to Frantz on her right. The rookie midfielder smashed a drive under the goalie's blocker into the left side of the cage.
Less than a minute later, the Eagles grabbed the lead on their fourth corner of the match.
Sydney Davis played the insert, and
Morgan Unruh released a shot toward goal. Pruitt worked her way in front of the goalie and redirected the shot in for a 2-1 lead.
The Eagles held the lead until late in the second quarter until the visitors scored a pair of late goals to move into the lead. Muhlenberg added single tallies in each of the final two quarters for the final margin.
"We had a great start to the game," Head Coach
Abbey Kemble said after the match. "That was something we talked about capitalizing on right from the beginning. As the game progressed some of our decisions led to turnovers and goals against. We will work on correcting them as we continue moving forward."
The Eagles are at Stockton University this Saturday.
