ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - On its final day of the regular season, Eastern Softball (18-11, 8-8) dropped a pair of contests to Lebanon Valley on Senior Day. Despite 17 hits, the Eagles were only able to muster three runs in 6-1 and 6-2 losses to the Dutchmen.
Lebanon Valley (24-11, 11-5) grabbed the lead for good in game one with a two-run home run in the second inning, before a two-run single in the third and an RBI double in the fourth increased the Dutchmen lead to 5-0. Jania Long recorded her 23rd RBI of the season with a run-scoring single in the fifth, but Lebanon Valley added an insurance run in the seventh to secure the victory. Long, Kelci Cost, and Kacie Noonan each finished with two hits for the Eagles, all of which were singles.
The Dutchmen opened the scoring in the second frame of game two on an Eastern fielding error, before a three-run fourth increased their advantage to 4-0. Lebanon Valley scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make it 6-0 before Eastern made a late push. Reigning Player-of-the-Week Tori Hook hit an RBI single up the middle, her team-leading 28th RBI of the year, for Eastern's first run. Sami Britton followed with her fourth home run of the season in the seventh to trim the Dutchmen advantage to 6-2. The Eagles, however, would not get any closer.
Cost finished 2-for-2 in game two, while Susana Perez finished with a double and a run scored.
Eastern will begin MAC Commonwealth Tournament play on Thursday, May 5 at Alvernia. The Eagles enter the tournament as the fifth seed and will take on No. 4 seed Stevenson beginning at 10:00 am.
