Baseball Starts Week with Win at Albright

READING, Pa. - Eastern Baseball began its final week of regular season with a victory over Albright on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles recorded 12 hits and took advantage of seven walks in an 8-1 triumph over the Lions.

Draig Cooley led the Eastern offense with three hits to go along with a run scored and an RBI, while Griffin Falco and Logan Klember each finished with two hits and an RBI apiece. Garrett Friend drove in a pair of runs, David Hunsberger scored twice, and both Hunsberger and first-year first basemen Austin Utterbaugh added an RBI.

After a scoreless first inning, Eastern grabbed the lead for good in the second on an Utterbaugh sacrifice fly. Hunsberger made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly of his own in the third frame. The Eagles added to their advantage with two runs on four hits in the fourth. After singles from Utterbaugh and Cooley, Friend punched a single through the right side, scoring both baserunners in the process, to make it 4-0 in favor of Eastern.

Hunsberger led off the fifth with a single, before Falco's RBI double scored the Eastern shortstop to make it 5-0. Klember added another run two batters later on an RBI groundout to second. The Lions were able to get on the board with a single run in the sixth, but the Eagles answered with insurance tallies in the seventh and ninth frames to secure the victory.

Sean Cottrell (2-5) earned his second win of the season and his first since March 4. The sophomore from Glassboro, N.J. pitched seven efficient innings with seven strikeouts, his second most in a start this season, to go along with just one run allowed. Riley Kiebach was effective in relief, striking out four in the final two frames.

Eastern will be back at The Yard tomorrow afternoon for its final non-conference contest of the season against Neumann. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
