ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Lacrosse kept things close early, but the visiting Hood College Blazers used a trio of three-goal bursts through the second period to pull away for a 19-11 win.
Hailey Ferry and
Caitlyn Quizon each scored three goals for the Eagles.
The Blazers (5-8, 1-5) scored the first three goals of the game, but Quizon, Cecilia Wilson, and Ferry each scored in a three-minute stretch to close the gap to 4-3. The Eagles were a little unlucky not to be leading at that point as Wilson hit the inside of the post and Ferry hit the underside of the crossbar in the stretch.
Hood took a 5-3 lead into the second quarter, and their attacking depth took over. The Blazers had seven different players score on the way to a 13-5 halftime lead.
The Eagles trimmed the Hood lead to 14-8 on a beautifully-worked team goal that finished with Quizon finding
Emerson Shauger on the doorstep with five minutes to go in the third. The Blazers, however, had an answer and restored their lead to 16-8 heading into the final frame. Hood scored the first three goals of the fourth period before Ferry scored twice and Shauger closed the scoring.
Kelly Steenstra made 11 stops in goal and Wilson finished with a game-high 8 draw controls.
Before the game, the program honored senior defender
Molly Dowling for her commitment to the program. She finished the game with two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
The Eagles finish their season with a pair of games next week. They host Elizabethtown on Wednesday before traveling to Messiah to close the year.
