ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - On Wednesday afternoon, Eastern Women's Tennis recorded its first victory of the season with an 8-1 triumph over Rosemont in its home opener. The Eagles won five of their six singles matches and gave up just five total games in their three doubles victories.

Trinity Gruber pitched a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 3 singles, while Kayla Patitucci and Thea Martin recorded efficient 6-0, 6-1 victories at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, respectively. In the No. 1 singles match, GraceHope Stevens came away with a 6-3, 6-2 win, while Brittany Pancoast rounded out singles competition with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 5 singles.

In doubles play, Stevens and Patitucci earned an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while Gruber and Pancoast also collected an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. Eastern's final triumph of the day came at No. 3 doubles, where Martin and Mercedes Lohmann emerged with an 8-3 win.

"All the work that we are putting in is finally starting to pay off," Eastern Interim Head Coach Eric Houston said. "I'm proud of the way we played on our home court. Even though Rosemont is a young program, we showed a lot of progress today."

Eastern Women's Tennis will be back in action tomorrow in Wilkes-Barres against Kings College. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
