READING, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Volleyball extended the match with a marathon win in third set at Alvernia, but the Eagles dropped the fourth set and the match to the Golden Wolves.
Foster Lobb led the Eagles with 20 kills.
The Golden Wolves powered their way to wins in the first two sets. The Eagles jumped to an early lead in the third set and held that advantage until Alvernia pulled ahead at 21-20.
Rodney Quarles pounded a kill for a sideout, and the Eagles scored twice with
Justin Flor at the service line grab momentary control of the set.
The Golden Wolves rallied and ahd a match point at 25-24. Lobb put away a kill to keep the Eagles alive. The Eagles earned a point with
Jeremiah Pha serving and had two set-points turned away before Flor pounded out a kill to extend the match to a fourth set.
The Eagles fell behind early in the fourth and were never able to string together enough points to overcome that deficit.
Lobb finished with 20 kills, Flor added 13, and Quarles had 10. The Eagles hit .186 as a team. Alvernia hit .325.
"We started slowly with our serve receive," Head Coach Randy Syaracuse said after the match. "Alvernia took advantage to take the first two sets. We weren't able to involve our middles until it was too late. It was disappointing to only generate four blocks. Between games two and three we talked about minimizing our individual errors. We refocused and stayed in plays longer. I am proud of the team's ability to battle, but against a big team with solid skills, we did not do enough to win."
The Eagles will close out the year with a pair of matches at Stevenson this Saturday.
