FACTORYVILLE, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Lacrosse dominated possession and raced to 19-0 win at Keystone College (0-3). The Eagles (1-5) won 15 of the first 19 draw controls and scored on 19 of their 31 shots to earn their first win of the season.
Emerson Shauger,
Hailey Ferry, and
Molly Dowling each scored four times to lead the Easten attack.
Eastern goalie
Kelly Steenstra made a save in the opening minute, and the Eastern offense did not get things going until
Caitlyn Quizon scored on a pass from Ferry with 10:46 on the clock. Her goal came on the third shot of the day for the Eagles.
It took Eastern another five minutes before
Teresa Gailey found Shauger on the crease for a extra-player goal. Gailey then scored her first of the year for a three-goal edge. That goal, with two and a half minutes left in the first quarter started a four-goal burst to close out the period. Ferry scored twice and Shauger buried her second of the day with 43 seconds left.
Up 6-0, the Eagles got a goal from Dowling early in the second quarter and six tallies in the final half of the second quarter.
Cecelia Wilson, who led the Eagles with seven draw controls, scored her first of two on the day to start the run to close the half. Dowling closed out the half with a goal in the final 11 seconds.
Up 13-0 at the break, the drama of the game was whether the Eagles could secure a shutout. The Eastern defense held the Giants without a shot through the third period and Steenstra made a pair of stops in the fourth to secure the shutout.
Kaleigh Hess-Davila scored her second goal of the year late in the third quarter and Gailey added her second of the year early in the fourth.
The Eagles are at Rowan University on Saturday.
