Softball Drops Pair to Stevenson in Home Opening Doubleheader

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - In its first home and conference doubleheader of the season on Saturday afternoon, Eastern Softball dropped a pair of contest to MAC Commonwealth Stevenson. Susana Perez drove in a pair of runs, which included her first home run of the season, and Sami Britton recorded her second round tripper in game two, but a late Stevenson rally resulted in a 4-3 defeat for the Eagles.

After the Mustangs struck first with an RBI single in the first inning, Britton and Perez's solo shots, both of which were hit over the left-field fence, gave the Eagles a 2-1 advantage in the bottom half of the frame. Eastern added to its lead in the third frame, as Perez scored Elena Iannuzzelli on an RBI fielders choice.

However, the Mustangs grabbed momentum of the contest in its latter stages, scoring a single run in the fifth before grabbing the lead for good with two more runs in the sixth. The Eagles had a chance to either tie the game or regain the advantage in the bottom of the sixth, but two runners were left stranded in scoring position.

The Eagles kept it competitive in the opener, playing five scoreless innings with the Mustangs despite not recording a hit. But Stevenson was able to pull away in the final two innings, helping to secure the no-hitter for starter Marissa Heuer.

Eastern will be back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Allentown to take on Cedar Crest College in a pair of games. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
