Softball Wins at Rosemont

ROSEMONT, Pa. - After a long layoff and a subsequent change of venue due to recent inclement weather, Eastern Softball put another check in the win column on Wednesday night with a 5-2 victory over Rosemont. Seven different Eagles finished with at least one hit, and a four-run third frame helped Eastern secure its sixth win of the season.

Kelci Cost went 2-for-3 from the dish with an RBI, while Jania Long and Meghan Johnson finished with a double and an RBI apiece. Additionally, Long (2-2) recorded her second career win in the circle, striking out three and allowing just two runs in a complete game performance.

The Eagles (6-3) were stellar defensively, committing zero errors in the contest. Susana Perez was a force to be reckoned with behind the plate, throwing out four Rosemont (3-9) baserunners over the course of the evening, including two in the sixth inning with the Ravens threatening.

After a scoreless first two frames, Rosemont used back-to-back knocks to take a 2-0 lead in the top of third. However, the Eagles responded in the bottom half of the frame, scoring four runs on four straight hits, all of which came with two outs.

Perez began the rally, reaching first on a hit by pitch, before Long's RBI double made it 2-1. A Tori Hook RBI single tied the contest at 2-2, before Johnson's RBI double put the Eagles ahead for good. Cost capped off the scoring with an RBI base hit, plating Chloe Rupe for the 4-2 advantage. Sami Britton added an insurance tally in the top of the 5th, scoring Sophie Rollins with an RBI groundout.

Long and Perez shut down the Ravens from there, not allowing a runner to advance past second base in the final two innings.

After nine contests on the road, Eastern will open the home and conference portion of its schedule on Saturday, welcoming MAC Commonwealth foe Stevenson for a pair of contests. First pitch is set for 12:00 pm.
