Baseball Falls to Rosemont in Home Opener

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - An offensive explosion from the visiting Ravens proved to the difference on Friday night, as Eastern Baseball (3-8) dropped a 23-6 decision to Rosemont (3-7) in its home opener. The Ravens tore the cover off the baseball all evening, racking up 20 hits, nine for extra bases, while scoring at least one run in all seven innings played.

The Ravens scored the first five runs of the contest, which included a three-run blast to left field in the top of the opening frame. The Eagles pushed back in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs to trim their deficit to three. Brad Clemens scored Matt McHale on a sacrifice fly, before Logan Klember crushed a two-run double to right-center field to make it 5-3.

After Connor Schilling doubled and McHale was hit by a pitch to begin the bottom of the fourth inning. However, the Eagles failed to capitalize, as the rally ended with a baserunning mistake and a subsequent flyout. The Ravens took control of the contest from there, scoring 13 unanswered run to take a double-digit lead they would not relinquish. Eastern scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth on a Rosemont throwing error and a two-run shot from McHale, but the Eagles would not get any closer.

McHale put together a solid performance at the dish, finishing 2-for-3 with two hits, two runs scored, and two RBI, while Schilling went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Klember collected a hit and pair of runs batted in, while Jin Lee went 1-for-2 with a run scored in his first appearance this season.

Due to Saturday's inclement weather, Eastern will be back in action on Sunday for a pair of contests across the street against Eagle Road rival Cabrini. The doubleheader will begin at 1:00 pm.
