MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - On a beautiful day for baseball on the South Carolina coast, Eastern Baseball (0-3) began its Spring Break trip with a pair of losses to Eagle Road rival Cabrini (4-2). The Cavaliers won the first contest, 5-4, in the bottom of the ninth, before exploding for 13 runs in the first two innings of game two in an eventual 18-6 triumph.
Mark Cruser led the Eastern offense in game one, collecting his first career home-run, a three-run blast, for his first multi-RBI game of his collegiate career.
Connor Schilling,
Joe Paradise,
Brian Lang, and
Logan Klember also recorded hits for the Eagles.
Cabrini took advantage of a pair of Eastern errors, scoring three runs in the third frame, before adding another run on an RBI single in the fifth to grab a 4-0 advantage. However, the Eagles came roaring back in the fifth. Cruser's blast to left-center field trimmed the Eagles' deficit to 4-3, before Paradise scored Lang on a single to tie the contest at 4-4.
The Eagles, though, mustered just two more baserunners in the final three innings, not advancing past second base. In the final frame, the Cavaliers put two men on base via walks, before a sacrifice bunt and a passed ball eventually led to the game-winning tally.
Cabrini took control of the second contest early, scoring seven runs in the first inning.
Griffin Falco cut into the Cavaliers' lead with a three-run triple in the bottom of the first, but six more runs from Cabrini in the second put the contest out of reach.
Paradise went 2-for-3 from the dish in the nightcap, which included an RBI double, while Lang also drove in a run for the Eagles. Cottrell, Cruser, and
Brad Clemens added a single hit each in the contest.
Eastern will take Tuesday off before playing another pair of games on Wednesday. The Eagles will square off against Newport News Apprentice School at 10:00 am, before wrapping up the day against Neumann at 1:30 pm.
