READING, Pa.– In the final match of the MAC Commonwealth season, Eastern University Field Hockey fell a goal short in a 1-0 loss at Albright. The host Lions scoreed the only goal of the match in the opening minute of the fourth quarter.
The host Lions had the opportunity to secure a spot in the upcoming league tournament, and the Eagles fell short in their bid to claim an upset win in the MAC Commonwealth. The loss is the fifth one-goal loss of the season for the Eagles.
Neither team had many opportunities in a first half that featured just two shots.
Abby Agapito handled both and the teams went to the locker room with the score still level. The Eagles absorbed more pressure in the third, but were still able to keep the Lions off the board. Albright had a 3-to-1 edge in penalty corners and a 6-to-1 advantage in shots in the third. Even so, the score remained level going into the fourth.
The Lions found their goal on their first penalty corner of the final quarter. Moments after the Albright goal, Eastern had a chance, but
Morgan Ruhl was unable to beat the Albright goalie with her shot. Eastern had two more penalty corners and shots on goal, but the Albright defense stood its ground to secure the win.
Agapito finished with seven saves.
The Eagles will wrap up their year with a non-league test at Arcadia.
