Volleyball Sweeps Two Matches at Neumann

ASTON, Pa. – One day after an outstanding home win over Susquehanna, Eastern University Women's Volleyball (17-5) earned a pair of convincing non-league wins at Neumann University. The Eagles beat the Marywood University Pacers and the host Knights in three sets to keep momentum going into Tuesday's critical home test against MAC Commonwealth co-leader Stevenson.

The Eagles scored the first five points of the match against the Pacers and never trailed in any of the three sets not he way to the win. Lexi Couch and Rachel Curran each had seven kills to lead the Eastern attack. Peyton Wheeler and Logan Martin each added five kills. Hannah Pringle and Bridget Kelly were effective in the early going, but neither player played after the first set.

After running away with big wins int he first two sets, the Eagles hit a few bumps in the third set, but aces from Viviana Fragoso and Martin helped the Eagles to pad their lead and win the final set, 25-22. Lindsay Adding and Elle Jiron -Bujanda split setting duties in the first match.

The Eagles hit .257 with just 13 hitting errors in the win over the Knights. Kelly, Pringle, and Couch each finished with eight kills. Couch did not commit an error and put down eight balls on only 13 attempts. Grace Casagrande matched her game-one total with 15 digs, and Jiron-Bujanda had 31 assists.

After running out to a 25-11 win in the opening set, the Eagles led from wire-to-wire in a much closer second set. Leading 21-19, Eastern scored three-straight points to grab control of the set. After a Kelly kill for a sideout, Jiron-Bujanda served an ace for a 23-20 lead. Pringle put the Eagles up 24-20, and Couch finally ended it with a side-out at 25-22. Eastern hit .317 in the second set, but the host Knights hit an impressive .400.

Up 21-20 in the final set, the Eagles scored the final four points to secure the sweep. Jiron-Bujanda again was at the service line for the decisive run. Kelly and Rachel Curran combined on a block for the penultimate point and Kelly finished the match with her eighth kill of the contest.

Eastern will host Stevenson on Tuesday at 7:00 pm. The Eagles and Mustangs met in a pair of five-set matches last year. Both teams are unbeaten in MAC Commonwealth play this year, and the winner of Tuesday's match will secure the top spot and home-court advantage for the upcoming MAC Commonwealth tournament. Before Eastern won the title last year, Stevenson had won eight league titles in a row.
