YORK, Pa.– After hanging with the No. 13 York College Spartans for the first half, a short-handed Eastern University Field Hockey side was unable to their powerful hosts in the second half and fell, 8-0. York scored six second-half goals in the win.
After two early goals, the Eagles kept the Spartans without another goal through halftime. York had a 13-to-1 edge in first half shots and a 7-to-2 advantage in corners. The Spartans (12-4, 6-1) broke things open early in the second half with a penalty corner that turned into a stroke. They added a gola in the run of play and another penalty stroke goal in the third. They added three more in the fourth.
"This was a hard-fought game against a tough opponent, "Head Coach
Abbey Kemble said after the match. "We were working with a short bench and had to expend a lot of energy defending. We will look to correct some mistakes that will benefit us in the homestretch."
Eastern (4-12, 1-6) will play at Albright on Wednesday.
