Women's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision at Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa. - An early tally in the second half proved to be the difference as Eastern University Women's Soccer dropped a 1-0 decision to Marywood. It was the Eagles' first-ever loss to the Pacers, who came into Saturday's matchup with a 9-0 record in their previous nine meetings.

"We have a lot of work to do," Eastern Head Coach AJ Stueck said. "Credit to Marywood for getting the win."

Eastern failed to generate much offense, recording just seven total shots, three of which were on goal. Kellie Reith and Brynn Rathsam co-led the Eagles with two shots apiece.

"Kellie showed true fighting spirit for the team," Stueck said. "She worked hard to create a number of chances."

First-year goalkeeper Emily Honig stood tall in the face of strong pressure, making four saves. On the season, the Roxbury, N.J. native has made 14 total stops.

Eastern will remain on the road this coming Wednesday, traveling to Haverford to take on the Fords. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

"The focus of this week will be identifying who is ready to work the hardest and for the longest," Stueck said. "We will look to see if we can limit chances and play quicker on the ball. The next game is very difficult, so I'm excited to see how we respond against an NCAA tournament team in Haverford."
