STEVENSON, Md.– Eastern University Baseball returned to action after nine days away from the diamond and could not get any offense going in a pair of shutout losses at Stevenson University.
Liam Clarke had two hits in the opener and
Matt McHale finished with three hits on the day.
Tyler Bennett retired six of the first seven batters he faced in the opener, but the Eagles could not take advantage of a two-out double in the first from McHale or a one-out single in the second from Clarke. The Mustangs found five runs on six hits in the bottom of the third, and the game went sideways from there for the Eagles. Stevenson scored in the final three half innings and pulled away to a 15-0 win.
The Eagles saw a first-inning opportunity go unfinished to start the nine-inning second game when
Shane Albertson was caught stealing just before Dave Hunsberger doubled to right.
The Mustang offense picked up where it left off with home runs by the first two hitters on the way to a 4-run first inning. The Eagles put a runner on base in each of their first seven innings, but they could not bring a runner in. The Mustangs, meanwhile, tacked on runs in the second, sixth, seventh, and eighth to pull away to a 9-0 win.
The Eagles will get back to practice tomorrow and will look forward to a weekend set. With many games to be played and expected rainy weather, the upcoming schedule will be a little unsettled. Check the website for updates on upcoming games.
