READING, Pa..– The match had already been rescheduled twice, and the league office had a hard deadline for getting matches in before next week's MAC Commonwealth Men's Tennis Tournament. Eastern and Alvernia needed to get the match in today., but today was not a day for tennis. Both sides battled through ridiculous wind gusts in a very tight match. The host Golden Wolves picked up their first win of the year with a 5-4 decision.
Both teams won three singles matches, but Alvernia claimed the top two doubles points to secure the win.
Darren Lopez was the only double-winner for the Eagles.
"It was a really tough day to play," Head Coach
Mark Spangler said. "It was difficult to get any rhythm in the game."
The Eagles played the match without
Ryan Kratz, which changed the line-up in both singles and doubles.
Kenneth Samuel claimed a three-set win at #3 singles, but he and Jacob Devage were unable to grab the point at second doubles together in their first time playing as a duo.
Lopez won 6-2, 6-2 at fifth singles and teamed with
Jacob Craig to win the third doubles spot 8-4.
Nick Wool won 6-2, 6-4 at second singles.
Barring an upset win by Alvernia at top-seeded Stevenson tomorrow, the Eagles will be the fourth seed in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament and will host Alvernia next week. Stevenson and Messiah will have first-round byes, and third-seeded Lebanon Valley College will host York College.
