ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– In the third game of the spring, Eastern University Field Hockey dropped a 7-3 decision to the 2019 MAC Commonwealth Champion Messiah University Falcons. Maisie Dorwort scored twice in the loss.
The Eagles honored seniors
Alli Dickinson and
Kiley Teixeira before the game. Dickinson put the Eagles in the lead early on when she converted in close at the end of an extended corner play. The Falcons then answered with a pair of goals to briefly grab the lead before Dorwart tied the game on another penalty corner goal .
Morgan Ruhl fed
Joelle Wash who drew the defense in before sliding a ball to Dorwart on her right. The sophomore forward drove a ball to the backboard to tie the game.
Moments later, Wash had a shot on penalty corner that required a huge save, but the Messiah goalie answered the bell and kept the ball out and the two teams went to the quarter break tied at 2-2.
The Falcons had the better of play in the middle of the game and built a 7-2 edge before Dorwart closed out the scoring on another penalty corner goal late.
"After a strong first half, we really struggled in the third quarter," Head Coach
Camrin Azzarano said after the game. "We knew this would be a tough test and we had stretches where it was a very even game. We can use this to know what we have to work on going forward."
The Eagles close out their spring at Widener on April 28.
