After three scoreless periods, the host Knights (7-6, 1-4) scored twice in two minutes to go up 2-0. As Neumann had dominated play in the third with seven penalty corners and six shots on goal, those tallies might have seemed to be just reward.
Down two, the Eagles had to fend off Neumann penalty corner at the midpoint of the fourth and then began to apply pressure. After clearing the zone and earning space up the right side. Howard earned the circle with a weaving run from a deep position.
Ryhanna Ridgeway met the cross and flicked the ball to the back post. Summa pounded the ball into the backboard for her tenth tally of the year.
As the game entered the final three minutes,
Brynne Miller stole a ball near midfield and pushed a pass forward. Howard again created chaos with a dribbling run into the circle. After beating a pair of Knights, the senior forward earned a penalty corner with 2:28 to play.
Angelina Ellis played the insert. Summa played a lifted shot, but the strike got more elevation from the deflection and crept under the bar to tie the match.
Catania had ten saves in regulation. The junior turned away one more in overtime to keep the Knights off the board.
The Eagles found the game-winner after an initial attack failed. With five and a half minutes on the clock, Howard got in deep and had her shot kicked away. Seconds later, Summa played a cross into danger, but the Knights flicked away.
Alyssa Caldini intercepted the clearing attempt and delivered a pinpoint pass to Summa on the left side of the circle. Summa delivered a pass to the stroke line and Howard drove home her 10th of the year. She now has three game-winners.
The nine wins is the most for the Eagles since winning 13 matches in 2015. The Eagles will host Widener on Wednesday. The Pride (5-7, 2-2) earned a 3-2 overtime win over Hood in Chester today.
