OWINGS MILLS, Md.– Eastern University Baseball dropped a pair at Stevenson to open the year. Though the two squads are both in the MAC Commonwealth, today's pair of nine-inning games will go as nnon-league games. The Eagles will get another set of four games against the Mustangs on Easter week.
The host Mustangs scored nine runs in their final two at bats to pull away to a 15-0 win in the opener. The Eagles, who have yet to practice on a diamond this year, mustered only six hits and committed five errors in their first game action in a full calander year.
In game two, the Eagles answered an opening-inning two-spot from the hosts with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the second to tie the game at 2-2. The Stevenson lead was 6-3 going to the bottom of the seventh. Stevenson scored seven in the bottom of the seventh to pull away to a 13-3 win.
Steve Sattanino and
Nick Kosenske each pitched a scoreless frame in game two.
"It was good to be on the field again." Head Coach
Scott Renauro said. "Being the first time on a field since the Fall certainly showed with hitters timing and pitchers off of a real mound. There were a few bright spots today. A few new guys showed what they can do at the plate and on the mound. Its a day that we tried to get all of our pitchers in and see a lot of our hitters. We have some time this week to get on the field and just play before we are back at it on Sunday."
The promise of warmer weather has the Eagles looking forward to weekend full of baseball in the weeks to come. The Eagles will play two non-league games at Widener next Sunday before jumping into four games a weekend through the end of April.
