GRANTHAM, Pa.–Eastern University Softball spent the day at Messiah University looking for a big hit. While the Eagles pitched and played clean defense, the big hits did not come and they dropped a pair of seven-inning games to the Falcons.
After mustering only a lead-off single in the seventh-inning off Messiah starter Madison Walter.
Susana Perez laced a clean single up the middle to break up the perfect game.
Lexi Evelyn did not allow a base-runner through the first two innings, but Messiah got a lead-off home run in the third. That run would prove to be enough, but the Falcons tacked on four more in the bottom of the sixth to make the lead safe.
Lauren Lofland and
Victoria Perez split pitching duties in the nightcap. Messiah scored twice on three hits in the bottom of the first and then did not score again until Shannon homered to lead off the sixth.
The Eagles had five hits in game two but could not muster a run in the 3-0 loss. The squad put together its best opportunity in the top of the second.
Sami Britton doubled to lead off the inning, and
Kelsie Parker and
Elena Iannuzzelli each hit infield singles to load the bases with only one out. The rallied ended with a pop-up and a ground out.
Eastern built another rally down two with two outs in the sixth. After
Grace Gonzalez and Britton both singled, the two runners moved into scoring position on a passed ball.
The doubleheader scheduled for tomorrow will be played on April 14th at Eastern. The Eagles start their series against Alvernia on Thursday at 1:00 pm.
