Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Topped by Alvernia

READING, Pa.– On cool and rainy day on the road, Eastern University Women's Lacrosse went toe-to-toe with the host Alvernia University Golden Wolves before falling, 21-10. The Eagles trailed 9-7 at halftime before the Golden Wolves grabbed control of the game with five goals in five minutes at the start of the second half. Ellie Pruitt finished with a team-high four goals.

Teresa Gailey made her goalkeeping debut for the Eagles. She made ten first-half stops, and the Eastern defense kept the hosts on the perimeter. Even so, Alvernia scored the first five goals of the contest.

The Eagles showed good resolve and rallied with four goals in a six-minute stretch. Hailey Ferry put away a free position shot to start the rally. Emerson Shauger and Pruitt scored in quick succession before Christina Butler capped the run with 16 minutes left. Pruitt scored twice more and Carly Burns added a tally before the half.

"As a team, we put together a full first half," Head Coach Elizabeth Gainer said. "We were in the game with a variety of different scoring options. HaIley, Ellie, Ali and Emerson helped us control the ball off the draw. Alvernia was able to wear us down in the second half."

Eastern won 9-of-16 draws in the first half and 16-of-33 for the game.  Ferry and Ali Andres each had five draw controls and Pruitt had four. The Eagles converted 5-of-9 free position shots. Ferry, Pruitt, and Andres each scored second-half goals. Emily Stiles played the final 21 minutes in goal for the Eagles.
