Evelyn No-No Highlights Softball Sweep

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Senior right-hander Lexi Evelyn delivered her first career no-hitter in a game one win, and Eastern University Softball (4-3) swept a doubleheader and the season series against the Albright College Lions (0-4).

Evelyn struck out nine and only walked one in the 12-0 win. The no-no is the first for the Eagles since Alyssa Welsh threw a five-inning no-hitter in a 12-0 win over Wilkes University exactly seven years ago. The Lions had a player reach on an error in the third and one reach on a walk and a second batter reach on an error in the fifth.

The Eagles posted big innings in the second and third innings to give Evelyn plenty of cushion. IN the second, Elena Iannuzzelli drove in a runner with an RBI triple and Susana Perez drove in two more with a double to the base of the fence in left center. Emily Loomis, who came into the day hitting .533, drove in two more with a single to left-center. Loomis finished the day 3-for-4 with five RBIs. Eastern plated six more in the third inning on four hits. Sami Britton led off the inning with a ringing double to the corner and Veronica Perez and Megan Kolakowski each had RBI doubles in the inning.

The Eagles scored ten times int he first and 12 times in the second as the effects of two days of doubleheaders took its toll on the thin Lion pitching staff. In the interest of protecting the health of the Albright pitchers, the game was called after two and a half innings. Veronica Perez threw two innings to get the win. Meghan Johnson threw a scoreless third in relief.  Susana Perez had the only extra-base hit in the second game.

The Eagles will play at Messiah University next Saturday and will play the Falcons here on Sunday for an important four-game set in the MAC Commonwealth. The Falcons (2-6) dropped four close games to York College this weekend.
