ANNVILLE, Pa.– Though Eastern University Softball put together a pair of big innings in a windswept doubleheader at Lebanon Valley, the Eagles (0-3) were unable to keep the host Dutchmen from doing the same. The Eagles fell 12-5 in the opener and 10-6 in the nightcap.
Though playing away from home, the Eagles batted second in both games. Unfortunately, the Eagles trailed 6-0 in both games before coming to the plate. Lebanon Valley ripped six hits in a six-run first in the opener. The Eagles found an answer with five runs in the bottom of the third. Veronica Perez and
Megan Kolakowski each had 2-RBI singles in the inning. The Eagles, however, were not able to tack on runs later in the game and LVC scored twice in the fifth and three times in the sixth before adding a single tally in the seventh.
The Eagles had six of their nine hits in the third inning. LVC finished with 18 hits in the game.
LVC started game two with six unearned runs in the first. The Dutchmen tacked on three more runs on three hits and an error in the fourth inning.
Eastern found a five-run response in the bottom of the fourth.
Sami Britton started the rally with a one-out double to right-center. Though the Eagles scored five times in the frame,
Kelci Cost had the only RBI of the inning. Her RBI triple drove home
Deanna Young who had come on to pinch-run for
Caysie Ambrico, who had a two-out single. Cost later scored the Eagles' fifth run on a passed ball. Young also scored in the sixth.
"We have glimpses of good softball in all phases of the game," Head Coach
Terri Adams said, "but to win against good teams, we need to get more consistent and put together pitching , defense, and hitting."
The second game of the series was not completed today. By rule, that game will be replayed from the start, rather than completed. A make-up date has not been announced.
The Eagles will look to earn their first MAC Commonwealth win at Albright next Saturday.
