Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Stopped at Widener

CHESTER, Pa.– Taryn Woodson recorded her second career double-double and Mikayla Wright finished with 18 points and eight rebounds, but Eastern Women's Basketball was unable to overcome hot shooting from the host Widener University Pride dropped a second-straight MAC Commonwealth game. The Pride (6-3) shot 50 percent from the floor in the decisive third quarter and held on for the 75-50 final.

The hosts built an early lead on the strength of a 13-to-2 run in the opening quarter before Camila Sosa hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Eagles (1-6, 0-2) a little momentum. Wright hit the first two Eastern baskets of the second quarter, but the hosts used transition baskets to build their lead to 43-22 at the half. The Eagles were only 4-of-13 from the floor and did not make a free-throw as the Widener defense kept the game on the perimeter in the second.

After Widener extended the lead with good shooting in the third, the Eagles showed offensive promise with 21 points in the fourth quarter. Much of that scoring came as Woodson got touches in the paint and was able to either score or move the ball to players on the perimeter. Wright made her third 3-pointer of the game in the frame and Woodson was 3-for-3 from the floor and scored 10 of her 14 points in the final 15 minutes. Sara Haas made a pair of baskets in the third as well.

Woodson finished the game with 14 points, 13 rebounds, and a block. Wright was 7-of-11 from the floor and 3-of-4 from behind the arc. The Widener defense forced 28 Eastern turnovers. The Pride held a 14-to-1 edge in fast-break points.

Eastern returns to action at Stevenson on Saturday.
