ARLINGTON, Va. - In the consolation game of the Pablo Coto Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday, a length scoring drought and turnover issues proved costly as Eastern Women's Basketball dropped an 83-50 decision to the Washington and Lee Generals. The Generals used a 29-8 scoring advantage in the second quarter and 13 made threes to build a double-digit lead it would not relinquish.
Mikayla Wright scored the Eagles' first two field goals, giving Eastern an early 4-2 lead, but the Generals answered with five straight points, including a three-pointer, to grab the advantage for the remainder of the contest.
Eastern kept close with Washington & Lee throughout the first quarter-and-a-half of play, trailing 24-21 at the 5:02 mark of the second stanza. However, the Generals scored 24 straight points to end the frame, taking a 48-21 lead in the process. In all, the Eagles were held off the scoreboard for 5:32 of game action, allowing the Generals to pull away.
Eastern shot just 17-of-51 from the floor (33.3 percent) against a tough Washington & Lee defense and were unable to close the gap after the General's second quarter scoring surge.
Wright led the Eagles' offense, scoring 13 points and collecting five rebounds, while
Sara Haas scored 10 points on four-of-seven shooting from the bench.
Taryn Woodson and
Jaelyn Harris each scored eight points, while
Ashya Gaddy added six.
Eastern Women's Basketball will be back in action on Saturday, December 4, hosting Messiah in its MAC Commonwealth opener. Tip is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
