RADNOR, Pa. - In the latest installment of the Eagle Road rivalry, shooting struggles and long scoring droughts proved to be the difference as Eastern Women's Basketball dropped a 74-41 decision to Cabrini on Wednesday evening. The Eagles were unable to get many of their shots to fall, finishing just 12-of-56 from the field (21.4 percent) and three-of-14 (21.4 percent) from beyond the arc.
Eastern grabbed an early 7-2 advantage on five quick points from Mikayla Wright and a layup in the post from Taryn Woodson, but the Eagles were held off the scoreboard until the final six seconds of the period. Ashya Gaddy ended the first quarter with a successful three-point play to make it a 14-10 Cavalier lead at the break.
The Eagles' scoring woes continued in the second quarter as they were held off the scoreboard for nearly five minutes until a Gaddy basket in the paint. However, the Cavaliers did not let up, growing its lead to 15 points at halftime. From the 7:08 mark of the first quarter until the end of the second, the Cavaliers outscored the Eagles 33-13.
Cabrini held their double-digit lead the rest of the way, building its advantage to as many as 35 points in the second half. The Eagles shot just one-of-13 in the third quarter and three-of-14 in the fourth. On the boards, the Eagles were outrebounded 44-33, while also giving up 27 points on 17 turnovers.
Wright recorded her first double-digit scoring effort of the season, leading the Eagles with 13 points on four-of-10 shooting from the field. Gaddy collected 10 points, while Woodson brought down a team-leading 10 boards. Jaelyn Harris finished the contest with eight points, including a pair of triples.
Eastern Women's Basketball will return to St. Davids next Wednesday to take on the Stockton Ospreys in its home opener. Tip is set for 6:00 pm.
