Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Chances Don't Fall as Men's Soccer Stopped By Stevenson

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Soccer created multiple scoring chances throughout the match, but the visiting Stevenson University Mustangs found a goal in the 80th minute and made it stand for an important three points in the MAC Commonwealth standings. Eastern (7-3-2, 1-2) held a 14-10 advantage in shots for the match and put two balls off the woodwork.

The Stevenson ball came on a long ball into the box from the left side near midfield. First-year goalkeeper Diesel Fiore came out for the ball but was unable to get a clean catch. Will Earhart was in the right spot to poke home his second goal of the year.

Down a goal, the Eagles pressed numbers forward. In the 83rd minute, Derek Buhrman took a flicked ball from Dylan Daignault but his shot sailed high. Two minutes later, Drew Johnson put a shot on frame that tested Kristian Salby, the Stevenson keeper, and in the 86th minute Jake Morales blistered a 20-yard shot just inside the right upright. Salby was again equal to the task. He parried the ball around the post for an Eastern corner kick.

The Mustangs cleared their zone for a bit, but the Eagles got a final chance on a free kick from 25 yards out with 20 seconds to play. Emmanuel Hewitt's left-footed strike curled over the wall and just over the crossbar.

Eastern had the best chances of the first half. Buhrman beat Salby with a volley on a bouncing ball in the second minute, but the shot floated off the near post and back into play. In the 26th minute, Morales cracked a ball off the crossbar that ricocheted straight up and hung in the air for several seconds before settling in the top of the net.

The Eagles, who have dropped two-straight in the league, will look to find their form on the road at Lebanon Valley on Wednesday before hosting Messiah next Saturday. Those two schools are playing at Messiah this evening.
