Women's Soccer Falls at York

YORK, Pa. - Eastern Women's Soccer's (7-7-2, 1-4-1) road woes continued on Saturday as the Eagles gave up three unanswered tallies in a critical 3-1 loss to MAC Commonwealth foe York (10-6, 3-3). With the defeat, Eastern fell to 1-6 away from St. Davids this season and seventh in the MAC Commonwealth standings.

Coming off its six-goal performance against Lancaster Bible, Eastern's offense was held in check for the majority of the match. The host Spartans outshot the Eagles by a 22-7 margin, which included a 9-4 advantage in shots on frame.

Despite this, however, the Eagles were able to crack the scoreboard in the 25th minute. Off a corner kick, sophomore forward Gabi Hollinger corralled the loose ball, beat a York defender, and arched a shot over Spartan goalkeeper Cat McCarty to give Eastern the 1-0 advantage. It was Hollinger's seventh goal of the season, which tied Brynn Rathsam for the team lead.

"Gabi was awesome today," Eastern Head Coach AJ Stueck said. "Not only did she score a wonderful goal, but she completed her defensive assignment as well."

York's relentless push on offense began to turn the tide in its favor, and just nine minutes later, Caitlyn Findlay found the equalizer off a cross from Anna Morton. Findlay gave the Spartans the lead for good early in the second half, before Jenna Terenchin added a little insurance off a costly Eastern turnover.

Rathsam and Cassie Avenick led the Eagles with two shots apiece, while Lindsay Kline, Madelyn Mullen, and Hollinger each recorded one. Emily Honig collected six saves in the contest, increasing her season total to 62.

Eastern will be back at Olson Field for its final home contest on Tuesday afternoon against Widener. Kickoff is set for 3:30 pm.

"We will look to have a strong respone at practice Monday as we have little rest before Tuesday's home game," Stueck concluded. "It is my belief this team will keep fighting until the very end of the season."
