CLERMONT, Fla.– Senior pitcher
Meghan Johnson pitched five scoreless innings to help the Eastern University Softball to an 8-0 win over John Jay College in opening game of the day. The Eagles built a 3-0 lead in the second game, but the Webster University Gorloks rallied in the middle innings to claim an 11-5 win.
Grace Gonzalez and
Sami Britton each wen 3-for-4 in the opener, but
Rebecca Howard did much of the damage with a double,a triple and four RBI's. Johnson scattered three hits and a walk over five innings in the run-shortened win.
The Eagles plated three in the second inning of their first ever meeting against the Gorloks.
Elena Iannuzzelli hit a two-RBI triple to spark the rally. The first year shortstop scored on an error for a 3-0 lead.
Though the Gorloks plated two in the fourth, the Eagles held the lead until Webster tied the game with a single run in the fourth. The Gorloks opened the game up with five runs on six hits in the top of the fifth. The Eagles plated single runs on RBI's from
Leslie Lutin and Howard in the fifth and sixth, but the Webster bats continued to produce with three more runs in the final two innings.
Eastern (3-5) hit .288 with 15 extra-base hits in their eight games in Florida.
